One killed, three injured in reactor blast

Explosion reportedly occurred when pellet formula was being prepared; cause to be ascertained

YADADRI BHUVANAGIRI : One person was killed, and three others were injured in a reactor explosion that took place at Premier Explosives Company, located on the outskirts of Peddakandukuru in Yadagirigutta mandal, on Saturday. The cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained.

Police said that the deceased was identified as Marka Kanakaiah (54), a resident of Bachannapeta village in Jangaon district. The injured were shifted to Yashoda and KIMS hospitals in Hyderabad.

According to sources, the blast occurred when the pellet formula was being prepared in the company’s PRDC Building-3 around 9.45 am.

Durga Prasad, the director of the company, said only four workers were in the building, and others had gone out for a shift change at the time of the explosion. The cause of the accident will be revealed after a thorough probe, he added.

Strict action will be taken against the company: MLA

Government whip and Alair MLA Beerla Ilaiah said that the cause of the accident would be investigated, and strict action would be taken against the Premier Explosives Company, responsible for the death of a worker.

Speaking to the media after inspecting the site of the incident, he expressed anger against the company’s management for ignoring necessary measures to protect the workers. Safety measures were found to be lacking at the building when inspected.
