HYDERABAD: Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is firm on giving BC ‘A’ status to the Mudiraj community, which constitutes 10 per cent of the population in the state, finance minister Etela Rajender has said.

Addressing the gathering at Mudiraj Simha Garjana at Nizam College grounds here on Sunday, Rajender, a Mudiraj, said, “During the Telangana movement KCR said his house in his native village, Chintamadaka, was surrounded by families belonging to Mudiraj caste.

He has enormous love for members of Mudiraj community. A large number of people belonging to the Mudiraj community were engaged in fishing and KCR was taking steps to encourage fishing. He appointed a BC commission to provide reservation to various communities as in Tamil Nadu. I hope this government will take steps to revive the GO issued in the erstwhile united AP state, providing BC ‘A’ status to members of Mudiraj caste.”

The meeting, organised by Telangana Mudiraj Sangham president Banda Prakash, voiced the demand for shifting of Mudiraj community to the Backward Classes list under ‘A’ category from the existing ‘D’ category.

Deputy chief minister Md Mahmood Ali said that he would take up the Mudirajs’ demand with the chief minister.

Another deputy chief minister Kadiyam Srihari, animal husbandry minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav and TRS MP K.Kesava Rao too promised the same.

“Aasara pensions should be sanctioned to  fishermen and jobs should be provided to the youth of the Mudiraj community as they are socially and financially backward,” Banda Prakash said.

Congress MLA T Jeevan Reddy and leaders of several political parties also attended the meeting.
