ELURU: An assistant professor of ASRAM Medical College allegedly committed suicide in her hostel room on Tuesday afternoon. According to the police, Akkala Sravana Lakshmi (30), assistant professor, was a native of Ramachandrapuram in East Godavari district. She was married to Dr D Seshagiri Rao, a neurologist who is working at Bangalore, two years ago. 


Lakshmi went to her native place Ramachandrapuram one week ago. She told her parents that she was suffering from depression and could not discharge her duties efficiently. 


They advised their daughter not to get disheartened and concentrate on her work. She returned to ASRAM Medical College on Monday. When she did not attend the duty in the morning, her colleagues went to her hostel room to enquire about the matter. Lakshmi was found dead in her hostel room. 


Eluru rural police visited the college hostel. The body was sent for postmortem. The police suspected that she might have consumed pesticide. A  case of suspicious death was registered.
