BJP youth wing’s ‘Chalo Assembly’ creates chaos inside and outside of the House with police taking party activists into preventive custody

HYDERABAD: The ‘Chalo Assembly’ called by the BJP’s youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha created chaos inside and outside the Assembly. While inside the Assembly, BJP members disrupted the House and one of its member even tried to snatch the mike from the Opposition Congress member, outside the BJYM activists tried to lay seige to the Assembly. The attempt was however foiled by the police.The BJP gave the ‘Chalo Assembly’ call protesting the failure of the government to take up recruitment to fill the vacant government posts. Since morning, BJP and BJYM activists across the state as well as Hyderabad were arrested by the police. They were taken into preventive custody.

As soon as the House convened, the BJP members rose to their feet and demanded that the Assembly take up the adjournment motion by them on job recruitment by the state. The BJP members even agreed to postpone one of its questions listed for the Question Hour, and wanted the short discussion.
Ministers Tummala Nageshwara Rao, Kadiyam Srihari and KT Rama Rao intervened during the protest and asked the BJP leaders to resume seats so that the House could run smoothly. However, the BJP members stood their ground. 

In the meantime, Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary started the Question Hour and asked Congress member T Jeevan Reddy to speak on a question pertaining to Minimum Support Price to agriculture produce. As Reddy started to speak amid protests by BJP members, the party’s Khairathabad MLA Ch Ramachandra Reddy rushed towards Jeevan Reddy’s chair and snatched away the mike asking him to stop speaking. This came in for criticism from the treasury benches and the Speaker.

Later, BJP members registered protest and staged a walkout. After the BJP members walked out, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao stepped in. MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi lashed out at the action of BJP members and said the Opposition leader should react to it. “I don’t want to be in a House where these kind of acts are happening,’’ Owaisi said.Rao intervened and said getting suspended or adjourning the House has become a fashion for some parties, he added.Meanwhile, BJP members Dr K Laxman, G Kishan Reddy and party national general secreatary P Muralidhar Rao and others tried to take out a rally from Basheerbagh crossroads to the Assembly but were arrested.

Seven Bills introduced
As many as seven Bills were introduced in the State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday by Ministers concerned. The Bills on Bootleggers, VAT amendments, Pattadar Passbooks, Road Development Corporation, Shops and Establishments amendment and Gambling Act amendment Bills. Once the Assembly adopts these Bills, they would replace the Ordinances issued in the last six months.

‘Hyd moves fastest’
Home minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy on Tuesday said that Hyderabad’s travel time is fastest when compared to six other major cities in the country. “Hyderabadis travel at an average speed of 27.1 kmph,” the Home minister said.Reddy was quoting a survey done by cab aggregator Ola in January 2017, during the Question Hour in the State Legislative Council while replying to a question

No clarity on duration of Session

Hyderabad: Even though ten days have passed since commencement of winter session of State Legislature, there is still no clarity on how many days the ongoing session of the Assembly and Council will be held. For the first time in the history of the State Legislature till now, the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Assembly headed by Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary could not arrive on a decision on deciding the duration of the present session. It also failed to draw up a clear agenda for each day of the session, contrary to the earlier practice. The BAC met on Tuesday under the chairmanship of the Speaker.  Lack of agreement on time span of and subjects that are to be taken up each day in the House are said have created such a situation.
