Classical music form Thumri that seemed to have lost its shine is being revived by Sahitya Kala Parishad by the means of a music festival to celebrate its comeback. With a lineup of famous names taking part in the festival, it is slated to take place on August 13 and 14.
A music form, said to have been originated from north-west India, Thumri is associated with Lord Krishna’s raas leela. “The weather is beautiful and this form of music is basically a celebration for rain,’’ says folk singer Malini Awasthi. The festival will start with a performance by popular classical singer Shubha Mudgal and eminent Bengali musician Ajoy Chakrobarty. At the Kamani Auditorium, 6.30 pm onwards
