The clash over the three-language policy between the Centre and Tamil Nadu escalated after Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman accused the ruling DMK of worshipping a man who called Tamil a barbaric language. In response, DMK MP Kanimozhi hit back at Sitharaman for her remarks about Periyar.
