At least one person was killed in a shooting incident at a university in the US state of Utah, police said.

WASHINGTON: At least one person was killed in a shooting incident at a university in the US state of Utah, police said.

According to a senior official, the police on Monday night received reports from the University of Utah of a man with a gunshot wound to the head and at least "one person confirmed deceased", reports Xinhua news agency.

The university, located in Salt Lake City, issued an alert to students at about 8.30 p.m.

About half an hour later, the university tweeted: "CAMPUS ALERT: Suspect male, white adult. Black clothing, beanie with cross, tear-drop tattoo on face."

The suspect remains at large.
