COVID-19 HIGHLIGHTS| Assam records 336 new cases taking state tally to 2,06,351

Total cases in the state rise to 2,06,351, including 1,96,051 discharges and 930 deaths. Active cases in the state stand at 9,367.

India reports 48,268 new cases and 551 deaths in last 24-hours taking COVID-19 tally to 81,37,119 and toll to 1,21,641 on Saturday, as per data shared by Union Health Ministry.

Despite 48,648 new coronavirus infections, the total active cases stand at 5,82,649 after a decrease of 11,737 and the total recovered cases are 74,32,829 with 59,454 new discharges in last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Centre has asked states to constitute committees for coordination and overseeing COVID-19 vaccination drive while ensuring minimal disruptions in other routine healthcare services.

Assam tally

Assam reported 336 new COVID-19 cases and 1386 discharges on 31st October. Total cases in the state rise to 2,06,351, including 1,96,051 discharges and 930 deaths. Active cases in the state stand at 9,367.

Tamil Nadu minister succumbs to COVID-19

The 72-year-old minister was admitted to the hospital on October 13 with severe breathlessness and tested positive for Covid-19.

455 new COVID-19 cases in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday recorded 455 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus and seven fatalities linked to the disease, bringing the infection tally to 94,785 and the death toll to 1,478, officials said.

Cinemas in Andhra gear up to reopen doors

Tamil Nadu tally

Tamil Nadu reports 2,511 new COVID-19 infections, taking the state's total cases to 7,24,522. There are 22,164 active patients while 6,91,236 people have recovered. 11,122 deaths recorded till date.

Punjab tally

Punjab reports 503 new COVID-19 cases and 16 deaths today. Total number of cases now at 1,33,658 including 1,25,198 discharges, 4,257 active cases and 4,203 deaths: State Government

95% of COVID-19 patients in Chennai discharged

Almost all the corporation zones have a discharge rate of 95 percent and above while in Sholinganallur, 97 percent of patients have been discharged. With the city now recording around 700 cases daily, corporation officials say the figure can go down further if this trend continues. (READ MORE)

'Impossible to wipe off COVID-19 transmission through lockdown'

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain says it is "impossible to wipe off" COVID-19 transmission through lockdown as virus has "spread through community" and people should treat wearing face mask as vaccine till real medication is made available.

Hours after allowing the reopening of classes for students from 9th to 12th standard in schools from November 16, the Odisha government revised its Unlock 6 guidelines and announced that a decision on this may be taken by the School and Mass Education department in a graded manner after November 15 in consultation with relevant stakeholders and issue of necessary Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).     The COVID-19 death toll in Uttar Pradesh climbed to 7,025 on Saturday with 21 more fatalities, while 1,822 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to over 4. 81 lakh, an official said. "In the past 24 hours, 1,822 fresh cases were recorded in the state while those discharged during this period were 2,426," Additional Chief Secretary (Information) Navneet Sehgal said."The number of active cases in the state stands at 23,768 while a total of 4,51,070 patients have been treated and discharged so far," he said.

    Pakistan issues new travel advisory amid surge in COVID-19 cases globally

    Authorities in Pakistan have issued a new travel advisory, reducing from 30 to 22 the number of countries from where passengers will be allowed to enter without a coronavirus test following a surge in COVID-19 cases globally.

    The latest travel advisory by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Friday divides international travellers into two categories.

    Passengers under category A will not need any negative COVID-19 report while those in category B will be required to undergo coronavirus screening 96 hours before boarding a flight to Pakistan.

    Andhra govt issues guidelines for reopening educational institutions from November 2

  • Educational institutions in Andhra Pradesh to reopen from November 2 in a graded manner.
  • Classes 9,10,11,12 to start from Nov 2, classes 6,7,8 from Nov 23 & classes 1,2,3,4,5, from December 14.
  • Academic calendar for 2020-21 will conclude on April 30 against the usual date of April 23.
  • The academic activities are divided in 3 categories — core lessons, activities that can be done in school/home by students, non-essential activities.
  • A 15-minute COVID-19 class will be conducted everyday, before starting classes, to spread awareness and give instructions on protocol to be followed to contain the spread of coronavirus.
  • Residential schools and hostels can be opened between Nov 2 and 23. By Nov 23 all hostels must be reopened as per COVID-19 protocol. Till then, students can attend classes at any govt school near to their residence.
  • Principals are instructed to conduct meeting with parents and teachers on Nov 1 to prepare school-level standard operating procedures

    TN Minister Doraikkannu critical

    Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister R Doraikkannu, admitted for COVID-19, is extremely critical, a hospital treating him said on Saturday.

    The 72-year-old Minister has "suffered a significant deterioration in vital functions.

    He is extremely critical despite being on maximal life support," Kauvery Hospital's Executive Director Dr Aravindan Selvarajsaid in a bulletin.

    An Indian-origin chef in Australia has been tirelessly working to deliver free food to the homeless and needy people, including international students, ever since the coronavirus pandemic broke out here and is now raising funds for a food truck to enable him deliver meals to them.

  • Cumulatively, 42.81 lakh samples have been tested.
  • The case fatality rate in the state was 0.56 per cent, while it was 1.5 per cent at the national level.
