The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued an Orange alert in 12 districts of Kerala for the day as the state continued to receive heavy rainfall. The IMD issued an Orange alert in all the districts of Kerala except for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam for Thursday. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority said cyclonic circulation over northern Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas would lead to isolated very heavy rainfall in several parts of the southern state.
As rains continue to lash days ahead of the expected onset of Southwest monsoon, IMD has issued a red alert in 5 districts in Kerala on May 16. IMD issued a red alert in Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kannur districts. A few low lying areas in Kerala were flooded on May 15 due to heavy downpour.

The U.N. has predicted that the total number of refugees could swell to 4 million, to become the biggest such crisis in this century.
Over 700 medical students from India are desperately waiting for evacuation in Ukraine’s north-eastern state of Sumy. The students had been making a plea to open the Russian border nearby – which is only 40 km away. Earlier, groups of Indian students at the university had appealed to PM Modi in an emotional plea to save their lives. They claim bombs are being dropped close to their University campus, and they can hear sounds of gunfights and air raids regularly.
President Zelenskyy said that if there is an explosion at the nuclear power plant, it is the end of Europe. Europe's largest nuclear power plant in eastern Ukraine came under attack from Russian shelling early on March 4. The plant accounts for about one-quarter of Ukraine's power generation.
