A youth was killed and another lost his legs when the bike they were riding was hit by a tractor at Akkupalli of Vajrapukotturu mandal in Srikakulam district on Wednesday.

SRIKAKULAM: A youth was killed and another lost his legs when the bike they were riding was hit by a tractor at Akkupalli of Vajrapukotturu mandal in Srikakulam district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Shek Kasim (17) while the injured is Mohammad Shahid (16), both residents of Venkateswara Colony of Palasa. According to Vajrapukotturu SI Ravi Kiran, Kasim, a daily wager, along with his friend, Shahid (16), who runs a fast food vend at Palas, went on a trip to Shivasagar beach in Vajrapukottoru on Wednesday morning. On their way back to Palasa, their bike was hit by a tractor laden with cow dung at Akkupalli at around 11.30 am. Kasim died on the spot while Shahid, who was pillion riding, lost his legs in the accident. Shahid was referred to a hospital in Srikakulam. Police took tractor driver, P Raghupathi, into custody and seized the vehicle.
