VISAKHAPATNAM: Marking the 56th death anniversary of Poet Laureate Sripada Krishna Murty Sastry, an exhibition of his medals and ornaments was organised at Visakha Museum on Thursday.
The jewelled crown, golden anklet and Maha Mahopadhyaya insignia conferred on him by the British in 1935 and the gold medal and Poet Laureate pendant presented to him by the then Madras government were on display.

The poet has created marvellous pieces and rendered Vyasa Bharatam into Telugu poetry between 1916 to 1926 as Krishna Bharatam. One of the popular dramas written by him is Bobbili Yuddham. He also authored 250 books,  including kavyas, prabhandams, dramas, criticisms, apart from being the editor of daily, weekly and monthly publications like ‘Kalavati’ and ‘Vajrayudham’.

“The medals and ornaments had been shifted to Visakha Museum in 1992 from Andhra University by my father after taking permission from the government, as it was not possible there to exhibit regularly. I have requested the GVMC commissioner for their regular display and I will also meet government officials for the permission,” said Kalluri Sriram, great grandson of the poet.
“I would like the government to collect all 250 books written by the poet and include them in the research curricula of different institutions,” he added.
