Audi, the renowned luxury car brand recently revealed 2017 Audi S4 and Audi S4 Avant at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Both the cars looks similar except few minor upgrades such as external rear view mirror and others. The main transformation that is seen in the S4 is the adoption of new turbocharged technology replacing the current supercharger technique. Audi is making steady improvement in its lineup by taking the traditional designs and upgrading them, which is enough to mix the things up. But there are many models like Audi S4 that from the long time, hasn't got any makeover, so this time it has been redesigned and included in the list which also has 2016 Audi A4, 2016 Audi Q7, 2016 Audi R8 lined-up to be updated.
The company introduced the facelifted Audi S4 only a few months after the introduction of the updated A4. New Audi S4 is a slightly beefed-up version of the compact sedan that comes between the A4 and the forthcoming 2017 Audi RS4. The new update can be seen on outer body, interiors while major modification is seen in the engine.
As Audi S4 is based on the recently launched A4, so it has borrowed numerous design cues from the vehicle. This in turn makes Audi S4 a slightly larger vehicle than its older version and the most aggressive one as well. The car will get more Aerodynamic design and A4’s like sharp features, so its coefficient is similar to the A4’s at 0.23 which is quite impressive. On the front, new Audi S4 gets restyled radiator grille, new headlamp with more angular shape with new LED pattern, the hood is slightly changed with subtle creases towards the fenders.
It’s the bumper that makes the main difference between the two, now it is bolder than the predecessor while lower part gets a bigger splitter and redesigned side intakes. On the side profile, S4 gets the Black window trim, aluminum-look mirror caps, restyled side skirts and spoiler, it will get a set of 18 inch rims covered with red-painted calipers (19-inch is optional). On the rear, Audi S4 gets the large trunk-lid spoiler and diffuser like inserts that comes with pairs of duo exhaust pipes.
Coming to the interiors, it gets similar treatment like that in Audi A4. The cabin receives the cleaned dashboard and continuous air-vent strip. Infotainment controls are placed close to the center console, it will get the new 8.3-inch display on top of dash while steering wheel and MMI controls are based on the 2014 Audi Prologue Concept. The seats come with sporty appeal and have adjustable side sections, massage function and integrated headrests. The cabin is almost black in color while the seats are covered with the Nappa leather and Alcantara upholstery, which can further be combined with Pearl and Ebony, Magma Red or Rotor Gray.
The standard variant will be replaced by matt aluminum with headrests and the door sills get S4 logos. For better convenience, the new MMI includes the touch competence, navigation, WiFi, LTE connectivity and free text search function. Audi virtual cockpit and head-up display are also available as options besides LED interior pack and color-adjustable lighting. The new Audi 4 will come with optional Bang & Olufsen sound system and Audi tablet for the back seat entertainment.
Under the hood, new Audi S4 will get the 3.0 Litre V-6 engine but this time it will work on the turbocharger replacing the supercharger. The mill has the capacity to deliver power output of 354 horsepower and the peak torque of 500Nm delivered from the low 1,300 rpm. From the older version, it has improved 21 hp and 32Nm. The vehicle can go from 0-62 mph mark in just 4.7 seconds, this makes the sedan about two seconds quicker than the previous model. Top speed for the car is rated at 155 mph.
The major changes have been in the transmission, as the vehicle no longer works on manual transmission gearbox. It comes coupled with 8-speed automatic transmission gearbox, power is supplied to all the corner via the permanent all-wheel-drive system.
The sedan will arrive stateside in the year 2016 as a 2017 model. Overall 2017 Audi S4 is more powerful, lightweight design and is built on completely new platform.
