BENGALURU: Banashankari police have arrested a gang of five men on charges of murdering a habitual offender at Yarab Nagar in the city on November 2.
The accused — Dilip Raj, Raghavendra, Gopi, Karthik and Anil Kumar — all aged between 25 and 35 and residents of the city, were arrested on December 17. A few other suspects are still at large.
The victim identified as  Avinash (29) was involved in an attempt-to-murder and a few other cases.
A few months ago, Avinash and his friends had a quarrel with prime accused Dilip over a trivial issue. After this, Avinash was arrested by the Hebbal police.

According to the police, Dilip was biding his time to take revenge, and it came when Avinash was released on bail recently. On November 2, Avinash was going to a swimming pool on Kanakapura Main Road near Hunasemara in his new Zen car, when the gang followed and stopped his vehicle. Sensing danger, Avinash ran, but the gang members chased him and attacked him with weapons before fleeing.
A special team was formed to nab the accused.
During the interrogation, the accused revealed that old rivalry was the motive behind the murder, police said.
