Encroachments: BBMP meeting a damp squib

BENGALURU: Officials of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) came in for heavy criticism for their failure to clear encroachments on stormwater drains (SWD) by big developers, here on Thursday.
A meeting convened by BBMP with private developers such as Brigade Group, JW Marriott and ETA Mall was postponed to December 28 as the representatives of some of the developers did not turn up.

The meeting was in connection with PIL filed by Samarpana Trust in August, following which the High Court had directed the BBMP to clear encroachments by the said developers.
The petitioners also decided to boycott the meeting, asking BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad to explain to the High Court why the BBMP did not act on the court’s directives.
