BENGALURU: About 300 residents, including schoolchildren, walked from Esteem Mall to Palace Grounds on Saturday morning demanding decongestion of north Bengaluru.
Under the banner of Karnataka Abhivruddi Mattu Anushtana Samiti, residents demanded long-term solutions to decongest north Bengaluru, reduce traffic jams and air pollution. They also wanted the government to sanction a Metro line.
The Samiti and residents’ associations in north Bengaluru organised a walkathon and sapling plantation programme, holding banners, and supported the proposed steel flyover.
Samiti president B M Devarajappa and general secretary A Shivaram Shetty stressed that it was a peaceful walkathon aimed at highlighting the need for decongesting north Bengaluru and making the area cleaner.
The residents had a #steelflyoverbeku demand. The proposed steel flyover from Chalukya Circle to Hebbal, now extended till Esteem Mall, is estimated to cost around `2,100 crore. It is expected to reduce congestion towards the airport and help residents living in the area.
