BENGALURU: In a conversation between a mystic and a pioneer of the biotechnology industry held in the city on Saturday, the mystic showed a deep understanding of science as well.
That probably explains the popularity of Jaggi Vasudev. Known to his followers as Sadhguru, the best selling author spoke to Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar Shaw at KTPO, Whitefield about a variety of complex issues— bioethics, genetic defects, abortion, civic issues, gender equality and the environment.
Shaw also launched Sadhguru’s latest books - ‘Adiyogi - The Source of Yoga’ and ‘Ananda Ale - Aasepadu, Saadhisu’.

Responding to Shaw’s question on parents’ dilemma on bringing a child with genetic defects to world, Sadhguru said, “We should undo ourselves to arrive at what’s normal and what’s abnormal.”
Sadhguru was also asked about Bengaluru’s worsening civic woes, and according to him, the root cause of it all was only overpopulation.
Speaking on the subject of opposition to certain aspects of biotechnology and bioethics, he said people would always resist anything new, pointing to the poisoning of Socrates and the crucifixion of Jesus as examples.
