Councillor’s husband held for assaulting techies

BENGALURU: Eight people, including the husband of a BBMP councillor, were arrested for allegedly assaulting several men, following the fight over a ground, on Wednesday.Manjunath Reddy, the husband of Sarakki councillor, Deepika, is the main accused.

One of the victims is the son of retired DGP Satyanarayana Rao. The accused have been held on charges of rioting and attempt to murder. According to police, Rao’s son and his friends were playing cricket at a ground. Reddy and his accomplices arrived and asked them to vacate the ground after which an altercation began.This soon took an ugly turn and Reddy and his accomplices allegedly assaulted the techies. Syed Salman, one of the techies, lodged a complaint at JP Nagar police station. A police official said they found injuries over the victims’ bodies.Techies told cops they have been playing at the same ground for a long time now.
