BENGALURU: There are several ways to manage kids in the classroom without resorting to corporal punishment, and there are several teaching manuals and methodologies to follow. But, no school is following them.
Even teachers are allowed/free to call Child Help Line to share problems they are facing in managing kids. Each school is recommended to establish a corporal punishment monitoring cell where it is a must to have student representatives.
“Before raising their hands or using any other method to punish a child, a teacher must realise that he/she is trained to do the job of working with kids. If a teacher is short-tempered, he/she should consciously exercise self-control. He/she must take the children into confidence and try to resolve the issue by talking to them,” advises Sundaresh Rao, a retired school principal from the city.
