“I have been participating in drag races across India. But to do so at an airstrip is the best experience,” said Sheikh Mujahid, a racer from Frazer Town in the city.

The participants also include a good number of women racers as well. “This is my second year at the India Speed Week. I am hoping for a prize this year too,” said Ayesha Inamdar from Mumbai. “Outside the track, I am a girl and there are men all around me. But on the track we are all equal. What matters is your skill, not your gender,” she added.

The event also saw a good turnout of the general public. “It is exciting to see these powerful bikes competing with each other. We love the sound of it,” said Vinay H S from Yelahanka.

The event also has music stalls and an expo of high-end vehicles besides the drag race. The last day of the event will have imported cars and bikes drag racing, said Tariq Mohsin, chief organiser of the event that is recognised by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India.
