Mr Jack loses battle to donkey milk myth

From our online archive

BENGALURU: In another heinous case of the mistreatment of animals, a six-month-old white jack (a male donkey) was found badly injured near the Forum Value Mall in Whitefield on Saturday morning. Unlike other happy stories of rescued animals, Mr Jack succumbed to his wounds in the wee hours of Sunday.

“This is yet another example of how badly male donkeys are treated,” says Aditya Badami, volunteer of Compassion Unlimited Plus Action. Donkey milk business leads to mistreatment of male donkeys (Bengaluru Express, May 24).

It appears that Mr Jack had been looking for food in the garbage dump and territorial dogs bit Mr Jack on the rear, and the wounded jack fainted. Maggot infested his exposed wound and caused his flesh to rot. Kiran Kumar saw the donkey lying unconscious and called the CUPA helpline. The jack was taken to the Hebbal centre and treated, but  survived only a night.
