10-month-old boy dies as lorry hits bike

BENGALURU: A 10-month-old boy was killed while his parents escaped with injuries after a speeding lorry rammed their two wheeler from behind at Sunkadakatte on Magadi Road. The accident took place around 5.30am on Tuesday.

The deceased was Bharath, son of Shailaja and Rajappa, who runs a pharmacy at Kannahalli on Magadi Road. The couple has been married for four years and Bharath was their only child.
Rajappa had just picked up his wife and son from City Railway Station and the family was heading home. Shailaja had gone to Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh to attend a family function a week ago. She was riding pillion holding Bharath.

The empty lorry was heading towards Kottigepalya when it rammed their bike. The impact of the collision was so strong that Bharath was thrown in the air and the front wheel of the lorry ran over him. The bike hit a median, leaving the couple injured.
Kamakshipalya traffic police arrested the lorry driver  Krishnamurthy. In his statement to the police, he said that he was trying to overtake the bike when he rammed into it, police said.
