BENGALURU: Metro services which came to a halt from 9.25pm till 10pm between Baiyappanahalli and MG Road resumed normal services at 6am on Sunday.

According to an official source, heavy rains had damaged cables of the third rail at Swami Vivekananda Metro station. The third rail refers to the 750 volt electrical connection which runs parallel to the Metro rail track and is responsible for the running of every train. It is sealed on top for safety reasons.

“It is not clear if fire or smoke emanated from the cables. It was a risk to safety to run trains and hence they were stopped between MG Road and Baiyappanahalli,” he added. Services were run on the remaining portion of the Green Line between Mysuru Road and MG Road.

One line along the stretch where services were stopped was opened to the public some time later. “All stranded passengers were accommodated on trains on the single line,” Chief Public Relations Officer U A Vasant Rao said in an official release on Sunday.
