BENGALURU:BBMP is ready to throw open two flyovers to the public shortly in Rajajinagar chord road shortly and residents around the two places can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The Manjunath Nagar main road flyover, and Basveshwaranagara Main road flyover are in the final stages of construction. The one in Shivanhalli road is however yet to be started. The flyovers were part of the BBMP project started in March 2016, to make chord road signal less.
Manjula Vijaykumar, local corporator says, “We are completing the two flyovers by December and work is progressing well. Even the residents are happy that the work is completing.”
One of the resident Pooja Patil, says “It’s been a long wait for us as we were fed up with dust and traffic on service road.” Residents around Manjunath Nagar main road were completely blocked from accessing Rajajinagar through the main road. They had to go to Shivnahalli or Modi junction to cross over to Rajajinagara and vice versa.
A student from KLE Rajajinagar located on the main road says, “The traffic on Modi junction is too congested. If we take that route it will take around 15 to 20 minutes. If the flyover is completed I will take less than a minute to got to my college”.Manjunath main road flyover will be bi-directional while the Basveshwaranagara will be uni-directional.While residents are happy, many businesses have been severly affected on Manjunath Main Road.
Shivanahalli Flyover delay
Due to the residents demand, the technical advisory committee(TAG) of BBMP had re -planned the Shivanahhli project. It was originally planned as an underpass but was changed to a flyover in order to save trees from being chopped. Due to this change ithe BBMP claims to have saved nearly 22 trees. Resident claim that the decision to make the flyover, has saved 16 feet of the service road, besides saving the 22 trees. Residents of Shivanahalli have to endure traffic congestion for more time, says Ranjan, a resident.
