Govt earmarks Rs 20 cr for select startups

BENGALURU: Curtains closed on the three-day Bengaluru Tech Summit 2017 with the state government earmarking Rs 20 crore for startups selected under the ‘Elevate 100’ programme. The government also aims to train 1.1 lakh youths with skills related to new age technology by March 2018, under the Yuva Yuga programme.

The three-day summit saw deliberations on various topics in the fields of Information Technology and Biotechnology ranging from artificial intelligence to livestock rearing. Speaking at the valedictory event on Saturday, Minister for IT, BT Priyank Kharge stressed the importance of government intervention and collaborative efforts inside and outside the state’s ecosystem.

“In the last three days, we have collaborated with French, Dutch, English and Australian entrepreneurs. We want to enhance skills in emerging technologies and foster innovation,” he said. In the last one year, the government has given grants to 150 startups, he added.

As part of the Elevate 100, 38 IT and ITES startups were sanctioned Rs 5.50 crore, 27 MedTech startups got Rs 4.30 crore, 17 ESDM startups were allotted Rs 3.6 crore, 12 BT startups received Rs 2.80 crore, six AVGC startups got Rs 1.3 crore, four agriculture startups were allotted Rs 1 crore, four startups in Aerospace and Aviation were allocated Rs 1.10 crore.
