BENGALURU: Following the death of a Class 12 student in the washroom of his school’s hostel on Saturday, police believe the boy died of a medical condition. Police expect to have more clarity after they receive the post-mortem report. Sarthak Puranik was a student of Sri Chaitanya Techno School, Doddakannelli near Sarjapur Road. Balakrishna, in-charge of the hostel, said, “Sarthak was among the toppers in his class. He was staying with four other students in the hostel, and even his friends have said there were no issues with him.”

Balakrishna said no instances of ragging had been reported in the hostel. DCP (Whitefield) Abdul Ahad visited the school hostel after the incident. He said that the four of them had seen Sarthak enter the toilet and lock it from inside. The DCP said, “Clearly there is no foul play. Sarthak’s parents too have not alleged any such thing.” He also stated that Sarthak’s death was not a suicide. “There is a possibility that he might have died due to some illness. But until we get the post-mortem report we are not ruling out any possibility and are investigating all angles,” he said.
