CHENNAI: The craze over Pokemon Go has pushed many corporates to enhance their brands by hitching a ride on the bandwagon. But Axis Bank has managed to apply Augmented Reality, an integral concept on which the game is built on, to come up with a useful application on their mobile app.
The Axis Bank app has been updated with an Augmented Reality option where users can see locations and distances of ATMs, branch locations, restaurants it has tied up with under its ‘Dining Delights’ initiative and even pre-approved properties for home loans in a Pokemon Go styled interface.
“Many people find it hard to use a normal GPS based map to navigate. This AR based option will let them find out where they need to go by overlaying locations and distances on top of the mobile’s camera feed,” said Amit Sethi, Chief Information Officer, Axis Bank.
Any user with an Axis Bank app can access the option, which is available without having to login on the app. The option is available as part of the ‘Near Me’ feature on the app.
Axis Bank is not limiting its plans for the feature to just ATMs, branch locations and others introduced so far. According to Sethi, the bank wants to build on the ecosystem created by the feature by tying up with more restaurants, stores, property dealers and others to build on the usecase.
“We have already initiated tie ups with some and we will continue to introduce more of them on the app,” admitted Sethi, while declining to name any. Customers of Axis Bank will get special offers from firms that have tied up with it for the feature.
