HYDERABAD: ICT Academy, which is involved in skill development, plans to double the strength of employees and trainers. “There is a huge gap between the skills needed by the companies and what imparted by colleges. Although the awareness about the importance of employability skills is increasing, a lot needs to done.

Till now, we have trained about 28,000 faculty impacting about 1.1 million students and job seekers. But, keeping in view the huge number of students passing out of colleges every year and we are scaling up on a large scale,” said M Sivakumar, CEO of ICT Academy. ICT Academy focuses on training the faculty and trainers, instead of directly imparting skill development training to students and job seekers, although it also conducts skill development programmes and industry- academia interactions.

According to Sivakumar, educational institutions are not catching up with the pace at which changes are occurring in IT and other industries. “We found that training the faculty is more important than directly training job seekers, in order to increase the reach.

To ensure that we catch up with the needs of industry, we are increasing our employee strength from existing 160 to 300 and trainers strength from 700 to 1,500 over the next one year,” said Sivakumar, speaking on the sidelines of a industry-academia interaction session held in Hyderabad.
