CHENNAI: For those present at the Stanley hospital, it may have resembled a typical scene in a movie. But it was a city woman head constable who was doing an applaudable stunt in real life.
On Friday, she chased a robbery case accused  for nearly half-a-kilometre and nabbed him.

Police sources said a team from the Fishing Harbour police station took the accused, Surya (25) to the Stanley medical college and hospital for a medical check-up before producing him before the court.
“He was not handcuffed since it was a hospital and he managed to free himself and took to his heels soon after alighting from the police jeep,” police sources said.

L Sivakami, a woman head constable, who was on duty at the hospital, would not give up. She chased the youth for nearly half-a-kilometre before nabbing him.Two other police personnel also reached the spot quickly and helped her in overpowering the accused.

A Fishing Harbour station official said Surya was arrested on Friday morning for an alleged offence under section 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others)IPC. He already had a couple of robbery cases pending against him. When contacted, Sivakami with humility refused to dwell on the details. Surya was later remanded to judicial custody.
