BANGALORE: Secularism and communal amity was on their breakfast palate, as they met with a group of businessmen and professionals from the minority sections - read Christians and Muslims.

Congress’ Krishna Byre Gowda and H T Sangliana - candidates from Bangalore South and Bangalore Central seemed to have a long day ahead on the campaign trail, but were all attention to the morning’s menu arranged at a prominent businessman’s house in Shivajinagar, on Tuesday.

Krishna Byre Gowda struck a note of consensus.

No point accusing the politicians of vote bank politics, for there are “practicalities” of politics too, he said as he reminded the businessmen and professionals that they have a responsibility to build a voter base of “progressive secularists”.

Even after a term as MP, the former super cop Sangliana seemed reluctant to call himself a politician. “I am a social worker in politician mode,” he said.
