BANGALORE: Bangalore University observed the 118th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr BR Ambedkar, the ‘Father of Indian Constitution’, on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, noted writer Baraguru Ramachandrappa regretted that Ambedkar was always projected as a Dalit leader. “He should not be restricted to Dalits alone. He struggled for every person of the society. Ambedkar was truly a first citizen in that sense,” Bargur added.

Bargur said that Ambedkar was against privatisation of companies.

``Hebelieved that privatisation will create economical imbalance in society,’’he said.

‘Ambedkar chinthanegala anantha sadhyathegalu’, a book on BR Ambedkar was published by the Bangalore University Prasaranga on the same occasion.

Governor Rameshwar Thakur, Vice-Chancellor Dr Prabhudev and Registrar Sanjay Vir Singh were also present.

 Varsity announces new sponsorship 

Bangalore University (BU) will sponsor the expenses of PhD candidates whose papers will be presented at International conference.

Speaking at the sidelines of the birth anniversary celebrations of Dr BR Ambedkar, VC Dr N Prabhudeva said that BU will sponsor the expediture of the PhD candidate who will present papers at reputed international conferences.

Dr Prabhudev added that starting from this year, the University will sponsor five such PhD candidates, including two from SC/ST, two from general merit and one from the minority category. The Vice-Chancellor said that BU was having a shortage of hostel rooms.

On Tuesday, foundation of hostels was done at the Jnana Bharati campus.

The Vice-Chancellor said that four hostels will come up at the Central College and the Jnana Bharathi campuses in the next one year.
