BANGALORE: The murder of KS Thammaiah, Chief Vigilance Officer of KPTCL, took a curious turn on Thursday as suspended police constable Shashidhar, who is presently lodged in Mandya in judicial custody, is believed to have given supari to kill Thammaiah and has been taken into police custody. Thammaiah, who was on his way home from office, was dragged out of the car and assaulted with sickles, rods and knives by four unidentified persons near Ananthapura Gate in Yelahanka New Town on Monday.

It is said that an old enmity between Thammaiah and Shashidhar led him to hatch the murder plot from jail. The main cause for the enmity is that Shashidhar, who was a constable in Channarayapatna two years ago, was involved in a kidnapping case of a Manipuri medical student along with his associates, and had demanded Rs 15 lakh as ransom for the release. Thammaiah, who was Additional Superintendent of Police in Hassan district at that time, was the investigating officer and arrested Shashidhar on kidnapping charges.
