BANGALORE: For the February 21, 2010 BBMP polls will have 66,19,704 and more voters.
Among the many firsts: this election has put a limit to a candidate’s expenditure.
An amendment to the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act had fixed the fixing said the amount to Rs 5 lakh per candidates for BBMP polls and Rs 3 lakh for polls in other city corporations.
The limit on expenditure has also meant that the BBMP polls will have nodal officers first time. They will scrutinise the candidate’s expenses and report to the respective election observer.
It is also the first time that Electronic Voting Machines will be in use in a local body election.
The SEC has already procured 9,500 EVMs and 15,500 ballot units at a cost of Rs 12.25 crore.
As in the Assembly polls, video recording of the polling will be done in polling booths classified as sensitive, hyper sensitive, vulnerable and critical.
State Election Commissioner C R Chikmath said that training of polling officials to take care of all these aspects will be held in the first and second week of January. Enrolment of voters will continue till close to the date of nomination for the polls.
