Amateurish movie all the way

Film: Birugaali (Kannada) Cast: Chethan, Sitara Vaidya, Charisma Bharadwaj, Kishore, Tara Direction: Harsha A                                                            Birugaali is choreographer-cumdirector Harsha’s second film. He had done a commendable job in his maiden venture Gelaya. However, he has not been able to maintain the same quality in Birugaali.

Watching the movie one would get the feeling that Harsha is overconfident about his ability to cater to the needs of the mass as well as the family audience. However, most sequences in the film are far from convincing and have no justification.

Chethan, who earned name and fame for his performance as the hero in the film Aa Dinagalu, has failed to repeat the stellar performance. There is no synchronisation between his acting and dialogue delivery.

The two heroines in the movie too are a drawback. It is not clear why the director chose Sitara Vaidya and Charisma Bharadwaj, to play the leading ladies, as their performances are not at all good. However, Tara provides good support through her fine acting. Cinematographer Venu too has done a neat job behind the camera.

The movie is about an ‘orphan’ boy Hachu (Chethan). He and Anju (Sitara Vaidya) are childhood friends. Circumstances compel Hachu to come to Bangalore. While in Bangalore, Hachu falls in love with an unknown girl (Charisma Bharadwaj). As the story develops, Hachu antagonises an underworld don. A police officer (played by Kishore), kills Anju but repents later for his action. Finally, Hachu decides to lead a lonely life.

Despite all its shortcomings, Birugaalitouches an emotional chord.
