Bangalore girl Deepika Sukumar has won the Miss South India crown for 2009.

BANGALORE: Bangalore girl Deepika Sukumar has won the Miss South India crown for 2009, becoming the first contestant from Karnataka to ever win the contest.

The event held in Chennai on March 10 saw competition among 16 contestants from the four South Indian states.

Jasmine from Karnataka and Soumya Rao from Hyderabad won the first and second runner-up titles respectively.

Nineteen-year-old Deepika told mediapersons that she was interested in working in films and intends to participate in the Miss India contest next year.
