BANGALORE: To promote Kannada language and culture, the buses of state transport corporations will soon start sporting famous quotes of great Kannada writers, poets and thinkers.

Transport Minister R Ashok announced this on Sunday at an event that was held to promote Kannada language and culture. Karnataka Development Authority had organised the event. Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Member of Parliament H N Ananth Kumar pitched the idea in the meet. He added that along with the quotes, photographs of the great writers should also be displayed.

“An ideal way of promoting Kannada language would be through displaying the sayings of such great writers and thinkers such as Kuvempu and Basaveshwara,” Kumar said.

Earlier in the programme, veteran actor Mukhamantri Chandru called for promoting the language and culture of the state. He said state’s own people had to take pride in their heritage and everyone should come together to promote it.

On the occasion, both Ashok and Kumar promised to contribute Rs 10 lakh each to build a weatherproof shelter for Suchitra Film Society. The event, Kannada culture and language celebration, started from Banashankari BDA complex.

Mayor S K Nataraj led the procession to Suchitra Film Society.
