BANGALORE: The Bangalore Urban third additional district consumer district redressal forum has directed the cheque clearing cell of the Canara bank to pay Rs 5,000 as compensation to Kirthi Kumar for deficiency of service.
Allowing a complaint by one Kumar, the consumer court issued the order to the senior branch manager of the clearing cell of Canara Bank.
Kirthi Kumar had issued a cheque of Rs 5,034 to the Oriental Insurance Company, drawn at Canara Bank for the premium to renew his Mediclaim policy. However, the cheque bounced due to insufficient funds in the account.
Kumar checked his account statements, which showed sufficient funds which was confirmed by the manager. Then the clearing cell of the bank informed Oriental Insurance to present the cheque, but it bounced again. Subsequently, Oriental Insurance cancelled the complainant’s mediclaim policy.
Kumar claimed a compensation of Rs 4.5 lakh from the bank.
Forum asks Bajaj Allianz to refund policy
The Bangalore Urban Principal Consumer Forum has directed the insurance company, Bajaj Allianz, to refund a policy amount of Rs 48,000 with 12 per cent interest to Themmegowda, the complainant, for deficiency of service.
Themmegowda had taken a policy from Bajaj Allianz on September 25, 2007, but the latter did not issue the policy to him including the maturity of the policy, and also did not refund the money.
Themmegowda then approached the Consumer court. He had sought Rs 19 lakh as compensation from Bajaj Allianz.
The consumer court directed Bajaj Allianz to pay Rs 3,000 as compensation to Themmegowda.
