Kannada Conference 2010 to be organised by the Association of Kannada Kootas of America (AKKA) will be held in New Jersey, US, according to the AKKA committee chairman, Amarnath Gowda.
“AKKA is a secular, educational, linguistic and cultural non-profit organisation.
Our mission is to promote people who are proud of their heritage and have a global vision,” Gowda said in Bangalore on Thursday. This year’s conference aims to bring together industry leaders and businessmen who are dedicated to the advancement all aspects of business and strategic thinking, planning and action. It will also bring about a convergence of literature, music, dance, theatre and other art forms at a three-day festival.
An estimated 8,000 people will participate in the event at which Kannada actors such as Vijay Raghavendra and Aindrita Ray will perform and a musical performance by Raghu Dixit and other artistes will be featured.
AKKA will also introduce film awards under categories such as Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Music Director.
It also plans to release a CD with 300 songs pertinent to Kannada culture.
“The event will be held at a cost of Rs 7-8 crore. We expect an exchange of ideas among youth and adults to set up business, educational institutions, encourage the young generation to form a youth wing of the Kannadigas, and promote assistance to villages in modernising cultivation,” said Gowda.
Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, Transport Minister R Ashok, former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy are expected to be part of the conference to be held from September 3 to 5.
