MANGALORE: Two students of Sir M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology (Sir MVIT), Bangalore, drowned in the sea near NITK beach in Surathkal during high tide, while another was rescued on Thursday. The victims have been identified as Parikshith and Karthik, students of third semester in electronics and mechanical engineering. Rohith, a  student of telecommunications was rescued and admitted to a private hospital.

They are from Hunasemaranahalli in Bangalore and had come to participate in an inter-collegiate programme at National Institute of Technology-Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal. Eight students had been to the beach for a swim. Surathkal police have registered a case.
