A bright day, the tall trees and shrubs a carpet of flowers full of marsh merry gold, lilies, potentellas, orchids, rhododendron and many more, the lichens hanging from the trees, the clear vast blue sky, the snow covered mountains around. This is not a dream. BASECAMP Adventures an adventure travel and outbound training company is organisng a series of High Altitude Treks and Expeditions in the Indian and Nepal Himalayas.
Dokrani Bamak/ Glacier track is one of the Himalayan Treks organised in the summer. It houses peaks like Joanli and Draupudi- Ka-Danda.
The trek starts from Bhukki village leading to Tel camp. The trek will be on a hill of over 60-degree elevation with a 70-degree walk, which would mean a steep walk and gaining height more quickly. The fi rst camp, Tela shall give the fi rst sight of snow-covered mountains on one side and a green terrain on the other three sides. One is expected to be introduced to various kinds of trees and plants species like silver oak, pine, maple and the wild orchids in abundance.
The next day’s trek will be relatively relaxed and with change in the height the landscape would also change. One would encounter the Gujjar Hut a tiny settlement of local tribes, mostly shepherds by occupation.
A long walk to Kheratal (Serpent Lake), which has clear water all year round and never dries would be the course of the day. The locals consider it as a holy place and a place of worship. The day would end at the base camp. A fl at piece of land on top of a hill, drop zone with water gushing down the valley on one side, peak Mechha Dhar, Jaonli, Draupadi-Ka-Danda and the Dokrani Bamak surrounding the other sides.
Amidst the enchanting surrounding, weather shall get colder which means less sleep, frozen hands and running noses would be a common scenario.
The trek would start from the base camp the next day towards Dokrani Bamak, trekking across the moraine, on reaching advance camp, where one would have an opportunity to gain more height and experience some good snowfall. Tela to Bhukki will be a cakewalk; the last leg of the climb from the bridge to the road will be the quickest and will be back in Uttarkashi.
