Tachhishyaadhyayananiveditaavasaanaam samvishtah kusasayane nisaam ninaaya
The students in the Ashram had started revising their lessons loudly and the sound woke up Dileepa.
It is clear that it is our tradition to revise lessons in the early morning. Reading at that time has its own advantages.
The mind is generally very peaceful then unlike at other times when one gets many disturbing thoughts. For instance, in the school, when the teacher is teaching, the minds of some students wander.
This is the experience of some students themselves and so there is no need for elaboration.
Rama's sons were Lava and Kusa. Kusa's wife Kumudvathi gave birth to a child called Atithi.
Atithim naama kaakutsthaatputram praapa kumudvathee |
paschimaadhyaamineeyaamaatprasaadamiva chetanaa ||
The birth of Atithi has been compared here by Kalidasa to the Brahma Muhurtha in which the intellect becomes clear and whatever is learnt is understood. This and other passages from our ancestors clearly tell us that they were following traditional practices, such as revising lessons in the Brahma Muhurtha, in their day-to-day lives.
The desirable relationship between the student and the teacher has been spoken of in the Veda itself.
Naivam vidushaachaaryaantevaasinau | anyonyasmai druhyaataam yo' druhyati |
Bhrasyate swargallokaat … |
No enemity should be there between the teacher and the disciple. Whoever shows hatred will not attain higher good.
It is our bounden duty to preserve this tradition of having a smooth relationship between student and teacher, for our Indian tradition is very valuable. Acquiring abundant wealth and power is not an achievement.
Our ancestors have nourished a valuable tradition and handed it over to us. Hence our main aim must be to preserve this tradition Sanathana Dharma forever.
The advent of Sri Adi Sankara was aimed at preserving our Sanathana Dharma and teaching it to people. Though many complain that there is no justice in Kali Yuga, there are people who are just and who are not passing their time idly without practising Dharma.
