BANGALORE: “The state government is planning to formulate a law to establish organ banks to encourage donation of organs of dead bodies,” said Medical Education Minister S A Ramdas.

The Minister was speaking at the inauguration of M S Ramaiah Advanced Learning Centre at M S Ramaiah Medical College on Thursday.

Stressing the need for more body donations, Ramdas urged people to pledge their mortal remains after death to the cause of medical education.

“Every medical college in the state should have an organ bank, which helps students in research and advanced education. We need more medical professionals. We can increase the number by starting new colleges, but we have to ensure quality,” he added.

He said the state government had appointed a twomember committee to make policy for clinical trials that take place at government and private medical establishments.

Also, within a month, a monitoring committee to keep tabs on the clinical trials in Karnataka will be constituted. Besides, he maintained that the state government was promoting integrated education through holistic health concept.

Dr Satish Chandra, director, NIMHANS said that every medical college needs to have human organ bank and these college should make proper use of dead bodies by providing better education and training to students. He also emphasised on the need for improving surgical skills.
