When residents in many areas are crying for water, the civic authorities are least bothered about the wastage of this precious and scarce resource. It has been over a month now that water has been leaking from a pipeline in Devasandra, KR Puram, creating inconvenience to the people in the vicinity as well as to regular commuters.
Explaining the initiatives taken by the association to tackle the issue, Venkata Narayana, the vice president of the association said, “We have sent letters to MLA Nandish Reddy but so far not received any reply. We have even met the corporator but the excuse he gave was the pipes had to be cleaned and hence, the leakage continues.”
Highlighting the ongoing problem, M R Krishna murthy, a resident and general secretary of the merchant association of Devasandra says, “Because of the overflow of the water, pedestrians are not able to walk on the road. How long do we have to bear this inconvenience?” Says Ajeesh F Rawther, a regular commuter and photographer says, “Since I often visit this place, I have tried calling the MLA but alas! no response. As usual he was busy with other important issues. The place is stinking and welcomes you with a strong foul smell. Imagine the plight of the shopkeepers and the residents who have no other option but to bear it.”
When City Express brought the issue to the area corporator N Veeranna, he said, “The pipe lines are 7-8 years old, so damaged to a certain extent. Currently, we are cleaning the pipes as papers and waste materials have blocked the pipe. Until we rectify this issue, the leakage will be there for a while.”
