A zesty sports day filled with eye-popping stunts, interesting aerobic sessions and pyramid      formations by budding athletes showcased the skills of the students of Pon Vidyashram Group of Schools during their ninth Annual Sports Meet held at the school’s Valasaravakkam branch premises on Thursday. Around 1500 students took part in the meet that was declared open by World Cup boxing medallist V Devarajan.

The students kick-started the event with a delightful fusion of folk art performances, such as oyilattam, mayilattam, karagam and silambattam. In the high-octane stunt show that followed, participants had the open-mouthed spectators in raptures with their ‘freewheeling’.

The highlight of the day was the pyramid show that had an enviably dexterous troupe of athletes demonstrate their ability to conjure up a host of whacky shapes, from beautiful lotus patterns, lamp shades to cylindrical towers and architectural marvels of temples. The ‘shape-shifters’ gave a fitting finale to the show with a wave formation at which point the audience broke into thunderous applause.

A series of athletic events and interactive games sessions for parents, followed by the prize distribution ceremony, wrapped up the event.
