MLA’s guard hurt as pistol misfires

BANGALORE: The gunman of Nagamangala MLA Suresh Gowda was injured after a pistol misfired from his service pistol. The incident was reported at the MLA’s residence in Jeevan Bima Nagar on Tuesday morning. Ravindra Kumar, 26, an armed police constable from Mandya’s District Armed Reserve, and gunman of the MLA, was injured.

According to sources, a bullet accidentally struck him on left forearm. Police said that Kumar was cleaning his pistol, while the MLA was about to go for the legislative session. In the process, a bullet went off from the pistol injuring him. The MLA and others shifted him to a nearby hospital, where he was operated and the bullet was removed. The J B Nagar police registered a case under section 286 (Negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance) and 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigations are on.
