BANGALORE: Continuing its founder KM Munshi’s dream project of providing books at affordable prices to public, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB) and Kannada and Culture Department released 25 books penned by well-known authors from the state priced at Rs 10 each on Tuesday.

Munshi was well known for his initiative to provide books to the common man at Rs 1 and this tradition is followed by the institution.

Speaking at a programme organised to release the books, Manu Baligar, commissioner of the Kannada and Culture Department said, “Back in 1952, books were priced at Rs 1 and gold was approximately at Rs 50.  Now, the value of gold has increased astronomically but we have managed to keep the price of books down to Rs 10.” Praising the 25 books on the offer, he stated that having a collection of books was as precious as gold.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has further plans to release 75 more books in the coming days so as to have 100 books of popular authors from the state on offer.
