BANGALORE: The residents of Kushalnagar Ward are happy with the roads at various localities in the ward. They want to thank the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities for asphalting and concreting the roads.

However, the residents appeal the BBMP authorities to pressurise the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) authorities to supply Cauvery water.  They have also complained about heaps of garbage. “We have been requesting the authorities to supply Cauvery water for many years but in vain. We have to buy drinking water, since the borewell water is not fit for drinking,’’ said J David Kumar, a resident of 1st Cross,

P and T Colony.

Areas such as Anwar Block, Ashok Nagar, Kushal Nagar, some parts of Kadugondanahalli, P and T Colony, Muneshwar Nagar are the important localities in Kushalnagar Ward. The BBMP authorities have concreted many roads in the ward. The residents complain that many open wells are becoming dry due to the concretisation of roads. They said that concrete roads prevent percolation of rain water into the soil. “We do not want concrete roads. We do not know why have the BBMP authorities opted for cement roads,’’

said a resident.

The residents also complained about the non-supply of borewell water. “We have organised protests for water supply on many occasions but in vain. Many residents are facing a lot of problems due to acute shortage of water,’’ said B Nazeer

Ahmed, a resident.

Meanwhile, Noor Jahan, Corporator, said that lack of funds for the development works has become a hurdle. Noor Jahan said that 22 borewells were dug to supply water. “The BBMP had allocated only `2 crore for the development works in the ward. The money was spent to asphalt roads at BDA Layout near Rama Tent and concrete roads at P and T Colony and other areas,’’ she said. The residents are happy with BBMP developing a park at Venkateshpuram. The BBMP has developed the park with an estimated cost of `20 lakh. “It will be useful for the residents to spend time at the park in the morning and evening. The park is yet to be officially inaugurated,’’ said the Corporator.

Expressing displeasure over the lack of funds, the Corporator said that there were a lot of work to be done at various localities in the ward. “I want to focus on construction of houses for economically weaker sections at Muslim Colony and Basavanagar. More development works can be taken up if the BBMP allocates more funds for this ward,’’ added the corporator.
