Central Govt Funds Sought to Upgrade City’s Infr

BANGALORE: A delegation under the leadership of MP Ananth Kumar will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking special package for the city’s development.

Ananth Kumar was speaking at the inauguration of Sir M Visveswaraya Road, which is constructed over the storm water drain that connects Basavanagudi-Tygarajnagar-Banashankari. Speaking about Central government’s special packages to Chenni, Mumbai, Kolkata and other Metros, he said, “Bangalore is the only city that has been left out. It is unfortunate that the Union is meting out step-motherly treatment to Karnataka,” he said.

Ananth Kumar said that the state cabinet has sent a proposal to the Union to name Bangalore International Airport after Kempegowda, but haven’t received approval. The MP said a delegation, under his leadership along with Mayor Sharadamma, District-in-charge minister, MLAs and MPs will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and  Union Minister for Urban Development Kamal Nath seeking a special package of `5,000 crore for the overall development of the city. “The fund will be utilised to develop Bangalore’s infrastructure including drinking water, power supply and other facilties. I will fight for this inside and outside Parliament,” he said.

Home Minister R Ashok, Mayor Sharadamma, Deputy Mayor S Harish and Yediyur ward Councillor N R Ramesh were present.
