When Computers create change

From our online archive

If it takes just a mouse to make a child creative, few things could be more challenging and encouraging than a computer-based competition for underprivileged children. Bearing testimony to this was the second edition of ‘Bhumi’s Computer Quest 2012’, a competition based on the fundamentals of MS Office and Paint, conducted by Bhumi, a  youth volunteer non-profit organisation working for the welfare of underprivileged children.

Over 45 children from  slums, community centres and children’s homes who had received computer training from nine Bhumi Computer Centres participated in the finals held at  the Institute of Financial Management and Research, Nungambakkam, on February 26, after clearing the prelims held at their respective centres in different parts of the city, including Hastinapuram, Kilpauk, R A Puram, Thirumullaivoyal and Thamaraipakkam.

T Revathi and Praveen Kumar (both from Seva Bharathi Centre, Hastinapuram) bagged the first place in MS Word and MS Paint respectively. All finalists received gifts from the volunteers.
