BANGALORE: The Russell Market Traders Association has pooled in up to `40 lakh and started renovating the charred structure by employing engineers.

One among the engineers is the D J Halli Congress Corporator R Sampath Raj.

Association General Secretary Mohammed Idris Choudry said, “It will be late by the time funds from the government and the Corporation reaches the traders.

Therefore, we have pooled the money and installed strong pillars.” Traders have been working day and night to rebuild the dilapidated structure.

They want to complete it within a week.

Meanwhile, Congress Corporators in Shivaji Nagar, Sarvajnanagar and Pulikashi Nagar Assembly constituencies have sent a proposal to the Opposition leader in BBMP about channelising their one month salary towards the development and welfare of the traders of the Russell Market.

Speaking to Express, Corporator R Sampath Raj said, “Congress Corporators from the surrounding areas have volunteered to give their one month salary for development of the Russell Market. We have expressed our idea to our opposition leader in the BBMP council.”
