The Tree Bank of India in association with Alpha Engineering College conducted a Seashore Protection and Seed Collection Campaign on Thiruvanmiyur Beach behind Ashtalakshmi Temple on March 6. It was inaugurated by G Mullaivanam, founder, Tree Bank.
The main objective of the campaign was to collect sea beans which are found in plenty on the shores. These seeds will later be distributed to other sea shore areas where soil erosion is rampant.
N Sugavanam, director and CEO, Suga Employment Services, Tamizharasi, principal, Alpha Engineering College, and Karpagam, social worker, presided over the event.
Over 200 persons including students, members of women self-help groups, environmental enthusiasts and young professionals took part in the campaign. Around 673 kilograms of beans were collected at the end of the drive.
